What do you think of when you hear the words, “food fight”? …I think of a scene in the movie Hook…
Perhaps some words like humorous, silly, fun, and childish come to your mind. I decided to see what the infamous Wikipedia had to say on the subject and it too mentioned the movie Hook.
“Food fights are a common element in slapstick comedy, with the pie in the face gag being especially prominent. Food fights are frequently featured in children’s television and books, usually as an example of destructive or reckless behavior. One famous food fight scene in a movie took place in National Lampoon’s Animal House. Another took place in Hook.”
“any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, promote growth, etc.”
“to contend in battle or physical combat; especially: to strive to overcome a person by blows or weapons.”
•••Where am I going with this…what is my point?
Well, this is the word picture that I received after asking the LORD what was going on with the “finger pointing” and “disagreeing” between parts of the Body of Christ. I felt like He was saying that there is a “spiritual food fight” going on in His Body (the Church). The majority of the people are not eating the Word for themselves and allowing time for it to digest, break down, nourish, strengthen, and fuel the body and do it’s job. Instead they are taking half-truths or words they have only heard and throwing them at one another. People are picking up what they think is the biggest, juiciest, and most satisfying piece of head knowledge or personal revelation…just to “chuck it” as hard as they can at the face of the person that they disagree with! “Take that!” No one is benefitting from this food fight and the substance of the Word is being completely wasted and neglected. Though it may seem fun and challenging to see who can throw the most “food” in the flesh, HOLY SPIRIT IS BEING GRIEVED AND STARVED! In humility, honor, and respect I believe we need to clean up the mess that we have made. We need to sit down at the table that He has prepared for us and actually EAT the Word (Rev 10:9, Eze 3:1, Isa 55:2, Ps 119: 28, 103, 116, 131) that He has given us so that when we are called we can rise up and feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and save the lost. Yes, many have been called now (spiritual leaders) and are walking in their calling; leading us to eat from the Source. But the majority of us in our immaturity have left the table early, not heeding the words, “not until you finish your meal.”
“He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.” Deuteronomy 8:3 (emphasis added)
