Pursuit of the HolyPursuit of the Holy by Corey Russell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I cannot stress the importance of reading, PURSUIT OF THE HOLY by Corey Russell enough!

I believe that this book touches on an area that has been completely lost in our day and age. As Corey points out, we are living in days similar to that of Hosea 4:1 “There is no truth or mercy or knowledge of God in the land.” Reading this has launched me into going after God for who HE says He is and not my own personal idea of whom I have made Him out to be. There are so many different swirls and ideas out there in the Church and in the world that are being tossed around, but the simple fact of the matter is…WE NEED TO KNOW WHO HE IS FOR OURSELVES! Let this book be a diving board into your journey with God, as Corey lays out a very biblical foundation on Scripture that will only lead you closer to Him and His Word.

Pursuit of the Holy digs into the importance of why we must come back to a place of truly understanding God! Corey simply draws out the “gold nuggets” found in the first section of Proverbs 2 (as well as other scriptures from the Bible) and breaks it down in such a way that causes your heart to burn for these realities. This book will provoke you to seek Jesus whole-heartedly no matter the cost. Are you hungry for the deeper things right now? Corey says, “Those who cannot live without God, do not live without God; those who can live without Him, do. It’s that simple” Trust me, you do not want to miss out on the deeper things of the Lord!

To sum it up Corey stresses the importance of having a true and biblical awareness of who He is so that we can approach and pursue Him today. These things are not to be taken lightly but they will lead you into a great understanding and knowledge of the Living God. “The number one hindrance to knowing God is knowing about God.” – Corey Russell

Read this book and your heart will start burning and will not be satisfied until you truly know Him for yourself!

Hey!

I just read this insightful article by Misty Edwards that was published in Charisma Magazine.  Misty has been in the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri from the beginning and has an amazing heart for the deeper things of God.  Her faithfulness to her worship calling has brought out some of the most profound music unto the Lord that I have heard.  I love how grounded she is in the Word of God and how it is released through her prophetic singing and psalms. Her passion to bring the harp and bowl reality that is in heaven, here to earth is encouraging.  So, check out the article below!

I Burn For You.

This past year has been a wonderful season of growth in the midst of patience and waiting upon the Lord.  Looking back on 2010 makes me appreciate where I am today.  It was not just the preparing for a new chapter in my life, but it was a preparing of a whole new series.  As always Aimee and I started the year off excited, but this was different than years past.  Aimee and I had just ended a four day One Thing Conference going into the New Year and then attended a leadership training immediately after while we were out in Kansas City.  The whole experience pierced our hearts and really shook us up, in a good way.  What we had heard and felt caused us to search our hearts and we knew that we could not go back home doing business as usual.  There was something bigger going on and we knew He was calling us to it.  We felt like the Lord was telling us to step down and to step out into a realm of Faith that we had not previously walked in before.  It was not easy, but it had prepared and equipped us far beyond anything we could have done if we had continued down our safe street while driving at the speed we were.  The Lord really taught us patience as we waited on Him.  I can look back and see His Hand with every step of faith that we made.

The only way we could get to where God was calling us to was by letting go of some things.  The fruit from our decisions to let go of some selfish things that we were holding on to began to show almost immediately.  By the end of January Aimee and I had found out that we were pregnant! It was joyous news and we couldn’t have been happier.  It seemed like the Lord was already getting His plans in motion for us.  Not only was our little girl on her way but also her cousin Cambria was just three months ahead of her.  Then before you knew it, it seemed like every young couple in the area was pregnant!  Yes, God was moving and He was bringing in a new army of HARVESTERS!  I can’t even count how many girls were born in the last year.  Which is a very cool prophetic picture of how God places a high value on women for the Great coming Harvest.

I was still growing and learning to be a husband (and will continue to do so) and now I had another awesome “job” title in the works.  Speaking of jobs, at the time I was out of a job, but I did not let this get me down in the midst of the good news.  If the Lord was going to bless us with a child, I new He would lead me to a job…and He did, when I least expected it!  It came in March after a last minute decision that we had said yes to when a door opened for us to go on a mission’s trip with our church.  We had not planned on going due to Aimee being pregnant, as much as we had wanted to go.  Then at the last minute it was like God had nudged us.  We took another step of faith and before we knew it, all three of us were in Mexicali, Mexico!  It was such a blessing to be apart of.  It was our first mission’s trip as a family, it was my first mission’s trip ever, and Aimee was a veteran…only this time she was carrying our little one inside of her.  We poured a lot out into the church and children and we were rewarded heavily with laughter and smiles that will always be carried in our hearts.  It just so happened that my next boss was on the trip.  I had never met him before, but he offered me a job and when we got back home I started working full time again.  How faithful is our God!

Time started flying by after that.  Aimee’s belly was growing and we were both staying busy with work and family time. The following months were filled with, “Do you have a name picked out.” And us saying, “NO”, then in our heads saying,  “Ok, God, what is her name?”  “God, could you help us out?”  “Well, let us know when you’ve got one picked out for her!” Then…it came!  But, was it from the Lord?  We read it in the name book before, but there are a lot of names in the name book.  Well when we heard it this time it was different.  We were on a short get away up in Redding, visiting Bethel during a morning worship set when Aimee looked at me and said, “What about Liberty Rain/Reign?”  I loved it!  So we agreed that this was probably going to be her name but we wanted to get some more confirmation.  We did, several small ones and then the kicker.  We started seeing the name Liberty everywhere we looked.  It was on cars, chip bags, bedding brands, walls…and all U.S. coins.  Ok, so these are pretty common things.  Then we were invited over to some long time friend’s house for dinner.  We talked and discussed life and they asked us the very familiar question, “Do you have a name picked out?”  We responded with a, “Not really.” The night went on and as we were getting ready to leave they wanted to pray for us.  We both sat down as they each started praying for us and then they started praying for our baby.  The husband started praying and said that he sees that she is going to have a lot of “freedom” with her.  Aimee and I kind of nudged each other while he continued to pray.  Then he reinstated the fact that she is going to have a lot of “freedom” and…LIBERTY! We started laughing out loud and they were a little perplexed.  After saying amen we explained to them the story.  He is faithful in the little things!

My brother and his wife gave birth to Cambria in July and this really caused our hearts to pound with anticipation! Before we knew it, the big “due date” was coming around the corner for us.  We were as ready as we could be.  We just wanted to meet our little Liberty already!  There was the possibility that she might even come early.  Well time was passing and the pregnant stage was getting a little old.  We found our free time being filled with family and preparing the baby room.  It’s always good to have family so close when life decisions draw you into a new focus during a new season.  Our focus, having a baby; our season, trusting God.  Then a few weeks out before Liberty’s “due date” our focus intensified and continued so as we PASSED THE DUE DATE! God really wanted to stretch our patience and trust in Him.  One week over due and we were doing EVERYTHING possible to speed this whole labor process up.  Still no ding from the oven…another week comes and met us face to face.  We were ready 9 months ago, now we were just plain tired.  Coming into the second week of being late and we were wondering if she was ever going to come out.  She did!  It was a very heart warming moment. It was not always easy, but it was WORTH IT! Seeing the hand of God in that surreal moment gave my heart a new hope for the rest of my life.  Liberty Reign Atkins was born October 26, 2010, healthy and happy.  The faith of a mustard seed moves mountains and that seed bears much fruit!

The year of 2010 has set the course for 2011 and beyond.  My life will never be the same and I will continue to pursue Him in a way that will not stop to think about what the “world” has to say.  If I am going after Him and laying my life down to get closer to Him, I can’t lose.  I want to encourage you all to step out in faith with the big things and the little things this year.  I have found more JOY in letting go and embracing Him and His ways.  There is nothing in this world that can compare.  Pray for me and my family as we go into this year with all 6 legs stepping out into faith.  He is faithful to the end!

Blessings in 2011,

Patrick Judah

Hello Friends,

I hope all of you that are reading this, are aware of TheCall and it’s founder Lou Engle.  If not, may this article encourage you to find out more about them both and even inspire you to attend this upcoming Call in Sacramento, Ca September 3-4, 2010 to see for yourself.

TheCall is not an event. TheCall is a movement emphasizing prayer, worship and fasting for Spiritual breakthrough. It is a nameless and faceless movement joining the generations. It is not a convention of celebrities or rock show. The musicians on stage are worshipers, not entertainers. The board of directors will not receive financial compensation, speakers and leaders come at their own expense.

I have seen Lou Engle at several different events outside of TheCall and his message has always pierced my heart with truth and conviction.   The first time I saw Lou Engle was at a Jesus Culture in Redding California.  He was speaking to a large gathering of teenagers and young adults and the atmosphere was hungry for a deep relationship with Jesus.  Lou Engle was teaching on Joseph and Daniel and was declaring and prophesying over the crowd that God is raising up young ones to live as Daniel and Joseph did.  Then he made a call for those that want to make a vow, like the Nazarites, to come up and commit themselves to the Lord and not to the things of this world.  The front of the room was filled with fiery young ones and the Spirit of the Lord was moving.  Yes, Lou Engle is very intense on the stage and his intensity is followed with words that are even more intense, but the man and the message need to be received! There is something about a message that is filled with fire and passion that reminds me of the apostolic teachings of the disciples and of the Prophets of old in the Bible.  It seems like in this day and age there are too many teaching about how to get comfortable now and how to be accepted by everyone.  From what I have seen and heard from Lou, I know that he has compassion for this nation and for the Words that the Lord has spoken that have upheld this nation.  He has been called to call those that are hungry and are longing to see the Father return to this blessed nation.  He is calling us to a lifestyle of fasting and prayer, not out of a “religious duty” but out of a relationship with Jesus that says, “I am hungry and only You can satisfy and only You can come swiftly with justice to those who cry out day and night for You.”

I also saw him at TheCall San Diego in 2009.  This was another crucial time for the state of California when Prop 8 was being voted on.  The whole day was filled with repentance and crying out for forgiveness.  There is something about gathering together with one voice and one heart that causes you to realize that God is the only answer.  You don’t have to be a scholar of the Bible, you don’t have to have it all figured out, you don’t have to be a pro faster, you don’t have to have the best prayer life ever, you don’t have to be perfect, all you have to be is weak and all you have to do is show up.

This Call in Sacramento is being held at another critical time for our nation and state.  Not only is it the 10th year anniversary of TheCall, but it is also right before the elections and I’d say anytime is a good time to gather the Body of Christ together to fast and pray to see the Lord respond to His people.  The time is now and the trumpets are blowing, will you respond?…BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN INVITED!

Also check out this message, CALIFORNIA DREAMING, to hear Lou Engle himself about the history of TheCall and the importance of it all.
See you all there!

Patrick Judah

P.S.

As some of you may know I have been writing about mystics of the past that have had some major impact and influence on our Christian History.  Now, I don’t want to get anyone confused or upset, but I am putting this article under my “Mystic of the Month” category.  I am not titling him to being a mystic in the sense that some may use the word.  However, I feel that Lou Engle, in his passion for prayer and fasting is reviving some of the ancient paths that many of the apostles, disciples, and mystics walked out in their time. Let me know if you have any concerns or questions. Thanks.

MUSIC AND ME:

When I started my journey back to the Lord I realized how much music could lift you up or bring you down.  I wanted to get closer to the Lord so I started reading the Word, but I was still listening to the same music.  I LOVE MUSIC, but most, if not all of the lyrics in the music I was listening to was a complete contradiction to what I was reading in the Bible.  I didn’t realize how much words could change my moods and feelings.  I finally came to the conclusion (with the HELP of the Holy Spirit), that I could no longer entertain both of these worlds.  It says in Matthew 6:24, ” No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other…” Now I am not saying that all music is bad, please don’t take it that way.  I know the Lord has anointed many musicians and singers out there and it is not wrong to listen to them or to follow them.  But please be sensitive to what you are allowing yourself to consume.

Just remember that the Lord SPOKE everything into creation, we also carry a certain power in our own words.  What words are you allowing to be spoken over you? I know God gives the talent, even to those that do not follow Him.  So be praying for those musicians and artist.  How amazing would it be if mainstreams music artists had an encounter with the Lord and started influencing their fans with a message of love and truth?
